スワヤンブナートとセト マチェンドラナート
Eyes on four sides of Swayambhunath
Speaking of Nepali temples, this eyes painted on the four sides of the spire of stupa may be famous.This is the Swayambhunath in Kathmandu and the eyes are Buddha's eyes.We also have Buddhist temples and shrines here in Japan but it is not common for them to have eyes. And the eyes are actually like cartoons and even they have eyebrows too. They look funny a bit.... But these Buddha's eyes mean a lot. Question-marks between each pairs of eyes is the Nepali character for the number 1. They lead us to one way to reach enlightenment or became awakened.
Anyway this style is pretty different from our temples and shrines.
四方に目があるスワヤンブナート寺院
ネパールのお寺と言えば、ストゥパの先の方の四面に描かれたこの目が有名かと思います。これはスワヤンブナートというお寺で、目は仏陀のものです。日本にも仏教の寺院はあるけど、目はないですね。それにこの目は、正直マンガみたいで、眉毛まである。ちょっと愛嬌があるようにも見えます・・。でもこれはとても意味深長で、 それぞれの目の間にあるクエスチョンマークは、ネパール語の1を表してます。これはわたしたちを導いてくれたり、開眼させてくれるものです。
いずれにしても、この形式、日本の寺院とは全然違います。
Majestic and Elegant temple, Seto Machhendranath Mandir
The appearance of this temple is very different from above and has majestic, and elegant atmosphere. This is Seto Machhendranath Mandir in Kathmand, too which attracts both Buddhists and Hindus. But their taking the worship is different from each other. Buddhists consider Seto Machhendranath to be a form of Avalokiteshvara . On the other hand, Hindus take him as a rain-bringing incarnation of Shiva（one of the three major deities of Hinduism). It seems to be odd that two different religions worship the same temple to me.荘厳で趣のあるセト マチェンドラナート寺院
このお寺は前述のものとは全然違って、荘厳で趣があります。これはセト マチェンドラナート寺院で、仏教にもヒンズー教にも慕われてます。でも、それぞれの解釈は異なってるそうです。仏教徒はアヴァローキシュテーシュヴァラ菩薩ととられ、ヒンズー教徒は雨をもたらすシヴァ神（ヒンズーの3最高神の一柱） の化身と考えます。異なった宗教が一つのお寺を崇拝するのは、ちょっと不思議です。
In Tokyo, UshiTenjin
This is my favorite temple where I often visit to pray, UshiTenjin. UshiTenjin is the worship from Shinto which is an unique religion in Japan.Seto Machhendranath Mandir and UshiTenjin look like each other to me. Actually when I visited Seto Machhendranath Mandir , I felt nostalgia. I felt very comfortable with the atmosphere.
I haven't expected that there are temples and shrines that are similar to Japanese ones out of Japan.
東京にある牛天神院
これは私の好きなお寺でよく参拝する牛天神です。牛天神は日本独自の神道のお寺です。セト マチェンドラナート寺院と牛天神、良く似てる気がします。実際、セト マチェンドラナート寺院を参拝したとき、懐かしい気がしました。その雰囲気がとても心地余よかったんです。日本の寺院に似た寺院をほかの国にもあるとは思いませんでした。
