MARK FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
Coming March 11 is the Japan earthquake and tsunami fifth anniversary. I am watching a TV program details about the disaster now. Tokyo where I am living is far from the epicenter in Tohoku area but we felt the strong shaking in the office that day. I remember many things on the desks fell down and I saw the walls cracked.THE TSUNAMI
In
Tohoku, the tsunami followed the quake swallowed many buildings and cars,
people and damaged the nuclear power plants. The tsunami was pretty huge and
had reached the fourth floor. Tohoku area is still winter in March. Many
survivors even were supposed to be killed by coldness.

It
may be
not right to prepare this kind thing but…it turned be better for Nepal to have any coastlines. It is sometimes a disadvantage in business but tsunami never attack them.

Buildings
in Japan may be much stronger than in Nepal in architecture . But the tsunami
destroyed most buildings and houses in the Minami-sanriku-cho. If the tsunami occurs in Nepal, I am
wondering…any single buildings and houses survive.

I saw many buildings under construction in Kathmandu when I visited there last
October. I didn't see a big progress in rebuilding next time I visited five
months later…

Even
it takes long time to recover in Japan. Still many people are staying in
temporary housing. And the problems caused by the power plants aren't solved
yet.

今度の3月11日は、日本のあの地震と津波のから5年目を迎えます。今、あの悲劇の特集番組を見ています。わたしの住む東京は、東北の震源からずっとはなれているけど、あの日、会社で強い揺れを感じました。机の上のものが、たくさん落っこちたり、壁に亀裂が入ったのを思い出します。
東北では、地震に続けて起きた津波が沢山の建物や車、人も飲み込み、核施設も破壊しました。津波は非常に大きく、4階まで届くものでした。東北の3月はまだ冬です。生き残ったにもかかわらず、多くの人が寒さで亡くなったのではないかと思います。
こうした比較はあまり意味がないと思いますが…ネパールが内陸であることは良かったのではないか。商業的には不利益だけど、津波には襲われることは絶対ないわけで。
日本の建物はネパールのそれに比べれば、構造的にずっと頑丈でしょう。でも、南三陸町では、ほとんどの建物、家が破壊されました。もしあんな波がネパールを襲ったら、一つたりとも残らなかったのではないでしょうか。
去年の10月に訪れたとき、カトマンズで沢山伸びるが工事中だったのを見かけました。今回、５ヶ月後に訪ねたときは大きな進展は見られなかったです。日本でも非常に長い時間が復旧にかかっています。未だに仮設住宅に暮らすヒトが沢山います。また各施設が引き起こした問題はまだ解決されていません。
