From Korea to Nepal
A few months ago I watched a TV program about Nepal in Tokyo. The show is Tamori Club. Tamori who is a toastmaster of this show visits Okubo area. Okubo area is a famous with its Korean town is located.Almost ten years ago, Korean drama shows made a blockbuster hit in Japan and triggered the Korean entertainment industry to takeover Japanese one and Okubo area transformed an old unsafe area in Tokyo to a entertaining Korean town where Japanese girls and ladies flooded out of shops selling Korean stars items.
And now " KathmanduTown" has joined there. Tamori mentioned that there are more than 2,000 Nepali people are living in Okubo. Totally more than 36,000 Nepali live in Japan according to a survey last year.
I visited Okubo to check it. When I went out of Shin-Okubo station, I didn't see anything more likely Nepal. After I walk a few minutes, I found a drugstore that was supposed to be located near so called "Islam Street" .

When I watched the TV show, I got so excited and decided to visit there immediately. I expected quite a lot of Nepali things.But actually the area was much smaller than I expected. Yes.... I found there were shops and restaurants standing on the one corner of the area. But actually it was a pretty small area.
Even the area was small, it was Wow!! It was so fun with looking around in groceries because I am pretty foodie. There are a lot of foods that reminded me of stay in Nepal. One is this.
FOOD and SPICE CENTER BARAHI appeared in the TV show. A restaurant named Momo is situated on the second floor. A Nepali guy owned both. I checked BARAHI. I didn't expect but they were at pretty good prices! Comparing to the price in Nepal, they don't add high transportation cost on them apparently.

Next I looked into THE JANNAT HALAL FOOD where I got this, rose water. They have a lot of spices at good prices too!
Surprising things
Btw Tamori asked six young Nepali guys living in Tokyo about what made them surprised to learn about Japan. Answers that everyone gave were same."Mount Fuji turned to be much lower than they expected".
I am planning of going back there to try restaurants！ It is exciting !
韓国からネパールへ？！
数か月前、東京のネパールを紹介するTV番組を見ました。タモリクラブです。司会者のタモリが、大久保を訪ねます。大久保は韓国タウンがあることで有名です。
10年ほど前に、韓流のドラマ番組が日本で大ヒットして、韓国芸能業界が日本の芸能業界を旋風し、大久保界隈は東京の古いちょっと安全じゃない街から、 楽しい韓国タウンに生まれ変わり、日本人の女性が韓国スターアイテムを扱うお店から溢れかえる場所となりました。
そして今、「リトルカトマンズ」がここに加わったんです。
調査のため大久保を訪れました。新大久保駅をでましたが、特にそれらしいものは見つからず。数分歩くと、「イスラムストリート」の近くにあるはずの薬局を見つけました。

テレビで見たとき、すごいワクワクして、すぐに行くことを決めました。ネパールが沢山あるかなと期待していました。確かに・・お店やレストランはその一角にありました。でも、それはとっても小さなものでした。といっても、おお～！でした。
食材屋いろいろ見て回るのは、食いしん坊のわたしには楽しいものでした。
FOOD and SPICE CENTER BARAHIはテレビに出ていました。上にMOMOというレストランがあります。とあるネパール人の男性が両方とも経営してるそうです。
FOOD and SPICE CENTER BARAHを見てみました。安さは期待していませんでしたが、安かった！現地価格を知っているので、高い輸送費は上乗せされていないようです。

THE JANNAT HALAL FOODでは、このローズウォーターをゲット。ここではスパイスが沢山、お手頃価格で売っていました。驚いたこと
ちなみに、タモリは東京在住ネパール男性6人に日本に来て何が驚きだったか聞いてました。全員の答えは同じでした。「富士山がずっと小さかった！」です。なお、もう一度今度は食べにいきたいと思っています！ワクワク。
