Kathmandu
I want to write about Kathmandu’s Durbar Square today. And before it, first I should learn about Kathmandu.Kathmandu is located in the northwestern part of the Kathmandu Valley whose size is almost same as the Kofu valley in Japan. Five mountains surround this valley and the average elevation is 1,400 meters above sea level. The valley is bounded by Patan, Lalitpur & Bhaktapur. Patan is a beautiful city which deserve to visit!
Kathmandu was called Kantipur where Newar inhabited and urbanized. Specially during the Malla dynasty from the 15th century up to the 18th century, the Newar culture flourished and sophisticated temples and monuments were built. The living goddess, Kumari's residence is located here.
Kathmandu’s Durbar Square is full with with spectacular architecture and showcases the skills Newar artists. But the quake had damaged most of them. The a plenty of debris remain here .
Jagannath Temple and pigeons
" Jagannath Temple" was the most impressive to me. This did survive. And pigeons apparently survived also… A large number of pigeons are sitting around this. Even on the roof, we will see them covering up it.This square is very open and comfortable, definitely Must-go-place.
There are totally three "Durbar Square " in Kathmandu valley, each is situated in Kathmandu and Patan, Bhaktapur.
カトマンズ
カトマンズのダルバール広場について書きたいと思います。が、その前に、カトマンズについて勉強。カトマンズは、日本の甲府盆地と同じくらいの大きさのカトマンズ盆地の北西に位置します。５つの山に囲まれており、平均高度は、海抜1,400メートル。盆地はパタン （ラリトプール）、バクタプルに囲まれています。パタンは訪問する価値ありです！
カトマンズはかつて「カンティプール」と呼ばれ、ネワール民族が住み、都市化を進めた場所。とくに15世紀から18世紀にかけてのマッラー王朝では、ネワール文化は発展し、美しい寺院や記念碑が建てられました。生き神のクマリの住居もここにあります。
カトマンズのダルバール広場は壮観な建物で埋められていて、ネワールの芸術家のショーケースとなっています。でも、あの地震で多くの建物が被害を受けました。まだ瓦礫が残っています。
ジャガナート寺院
ジャガナート寺院は最も印象的でした。この寺院は地震を生き延びました。ハトも生き延びたようです・・。ものすごい数のハトがいるんです。屋根も、埋め尽くしてます。広場は非常に開けていて気持ちいいです。行くべき場所です！ ちなみに”ダルバール広場”はカトマンズ、パタン、バクタプルそれぞれにつあります。
