Worshipping dogs in Nepal

Tihar

As I wrote, Nepal is a country of dogs kind of. Even they have the festival for dogs. That is Tihar which is one the most celebrated festival in Nepal. It is a five-day-Hindu festival in November.

People decorate homes with lights like Christmas in western countries and make patterns on the floor or rooms using colored rice, dry flour and flower petals.

There are five days for the festival and each days own their own celebration. Dogs are worshiped on the second day called Kukur Tiahar.

I guess you have seen a red dot put on forehead of Indian people on TV or something. That is originally for Hindu and called "tika" In this festival, that "puja" is done by putting "tika" on dog's forehead and flower garland around the neck.

Puja is the act of showing reverence to a god, a spirit, or another aspect of the divine through invocations, prayers, songs, and rituals.
I am wondering how dogs are feeling.

Actually other days than the second are also to worship animals.
The first : crow
The second: dog
The third: cow and oxen

ティハール

先日のポストに書いたように、ネパールは犬の国です。犬のためのお祭りまであるんです。ティハールと言って、ネパールのお祭りの中でも盛大なものの一つです。 ヒンズーのお祭りで、11月に5日間続きます。西洋のクリスマスみたいな感じで、家をライトで飾り、色のついたお米や粉、花びらで床や部屋に模様を書きます。

お祭りのそれぞれの日に、別々のお祭りごとがあります。犬は、二日目で、ククールティハールと呼ばれます。

動物

ククールは犬という意味です。

テレビとかで、赤い点をおデコに付けているインドの人見たことあると思います。あれはもともとヒンズーのものです。「プジャ」は赤いティカを 犬のおデコにつけて、首にはお花を飾って上げます。

点けてられて行われます。プジャは神様や魂、神々しい存在に対して、お祈りや歌、儀式で畏敬の念を表す行為を言います。

 ちなみにほかの日は、別の動物を称えます。

2日目: 犬
3日目: 牛
